Surface preparation

All surfaces should be clean, dry and free from frost, grease, and loose materials.

When cleaning contaminated substrates, HS Butyl recommends that propan-2-ol (IPA) is used and allowed to dry prior to the application of the sealant strip.

When applying the tape to porous or friable surfaces, it is recommended that the surface be treated with a suitable primer, such as an exterior grade PVA, to seal and stabilise the surface.

Application

To avoid creasing of the foil, separate the foil and sealant from the backing paper as they are being unwound from the roll. Once applied in place, use a roller to ensure good adhesion to the substrate.

Avoid joins in the flashing where possible.

Any joints should overlap by at least 120mm and be made with the uppermost piece overlapping on top of the lower strip so that any water running down will drain freely over the front surface of the flashing.

When applying the tape to textured surfaces, such as pebble dash or rough brick, it is recommended that a bead of Silfix® U9 Low Modulus Silicone is applied to the top edge of the foil to prevent water from penetrating down behind the strip.

Packaging

The product is normally supplied as a preformed strip on a siliconised release paper. A wide range of dimensions can be supplied. Product dimensions will determine the number of rolls per carton.Available foil colours: Aluminium, lead, and white.
The sealant colour is black.
